Here’s a breakdown of the key points about PBA:

  • Symptoms: Uncontrollable episodes of crying or laughing that don’t match a person’s mood.
  • Cause: Damage to the parts of the brain that control emotions, often due to underlying neurological conditions like ALS, multiple sclerosis, or traumatic brain injury.
  • Impact: PBA can be embarrassing and isolating for those experiencing it, and can also cause social anxiety.
  • Treatment: While there’s no cure, medications and therapy can help manage symptoms.

Veteran playback singer Alka Yagnik, following Anushka Shetty’s revelation about her neurological condition, has also shared about her health battle. Alka was diagnosed with a rare sensorineural hearing loss caused by a sudden viral attack.
